BULLS LOSE 1-0 AT ROCHESTER
(Rochester, NY) Garrrett Jones' second inning homer was the only run as the Bulls fell 1-0 to Rochester on Wednesday.
Jones homer off Mike Prochaska (0-2) was the only blemish against the lefty from NC State in 6.1 innings. Prochaska gave up just four hits, and walked two, while striking out two. Tim Corcoran then got a double-play ball to end the seventh, and allowed just a single hit in the eighth.
Unfortunately Durham was unable to score against righty Pete Munro (5-4). The veteran worked a complete-game shutout, throwing just 106 pitches.
Durham left two runners on base in the first, fourth and fifth innings, and then Munro retired 12 straight hitters. Shawn Riggans doubled to left with one out, but Luis Rivas bounced back to the mound, and pinch-hitter B.J. Upton grounded sharply to short on a play where it appeared he beat the play at first.
The loss was Durham's third straight to Rochester. The Bulls, now 2-5 on an eight-game road trip are 29-29, while the Red Wings, winners of seven straight are 37-22.
The Bulls will look to salvage the finale of a four-game set on Thursday. Air time on 620 the Bull is at 6:30, with first pitch at 7:05.
