BISONS PICK UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
In their first meeting since last season's Governors' Cup Playoffs, the Buffalo Bisons tagged the Bulls for four runs in the first inning and never looked back as they defeated Durham, 6-1 on Monday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Buffalo made it four in a row over the Bulls dating back to last season's playoffs when Buffalo came back from an 0-2 deficit to eliminate the Bulls and go on to the Championship.
Buffalo led :29 seconds into the game when lead-off batter Brandon Phillips hit a rope off the Snorting Bull in left field to give the Bisons a 1-0 advantage. Jody Gerut followed with a double to left and Ryan Garko was awarded first base when he was beaned by Bulls pitcher Chris Brock (1-3). After Jeff Liefer flied out to center, Andy Abad laced a single to left to load the bases. One out later, Jake Gautreau singled to right scoring Gerut and Garko. Jake Thrower followed with an RBI-single to right scoring Abad and giving the Bisons a 4-0 lead.
Durham was held to only seven hits, their lone run scoring in the seventh inning on an RBI-single by Paul Hoover scoring Pete LaForest. Brock took the loss allowing four runs on six hits in only three innings. RHP Jeremy Guthrie (2-4) picked up the win with six shutout innings of work.
The Bulls and Bisons square off again on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com or by phone at (919) 956-BULL.
